….so let’s check in with Team NTY for some inspirational women that have, and continue to, inspire them!

Now, of course, all the moms, sisters, family members, and friends have our hearts but we wanted to bring attention to some public figures we love in hopes that you look them up, learn a little bit more, and feel just as inspired as we do!

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Why Chosen: A rare display of choosing to be in politics for the right reasons. Not for power, not for connections, not for money, but for making things better. Fearless in everything she does, unafraid to stand up against a system that is intrinsically broken. Truly one of the people, whilst being undeniably inspiring.

Fave Quote: “I am as powerful as a man. And it drives them crazy.”

Olivia Colman

Why Chosen: A brilliant display of humility and honesty. Olivia is a world-class actor, but she understands that her fame is a set of lucky coincidences and she remains thankful and humble. A national treasure here in the UK, always true to her roots.

Fave Quote: “I am just an actor – All I do is I memorize someone else’s words and tart around.”

Fleabag (fictional characters count too!)

Why Chosen: I love this woman. I love her rawness, the not-so-subtle imperfections. Her ability to feel and act as a mirror for us all when we don’t quite live up to what society expects of us.

Fave Quote: “I sometimes worry I’d be less of a feminist if I had bigger tits.”

Megan Thee Stallion

Why Chosen: Megan Thee Stallion is a rapper, and a huge inspiration to me because of her hustle, confidence, and authenticity. She manages to keep her songs at the top of multiple charts in a male-dominant industry while attending and graduating college, collaborating with brands like Nike and Coach, and now tapping into her acting career. I admire her dedication to always take it to the next level. Her confidence and authenticity are both great reminders that what’s on the outside doesn’t make you a hottie, but what’s on the inside does. On top of it all, her rapping is fire. I always put on Megan’s music when I need a boost of confidence!

Fave Quote: “To be a Hottie, you have to have a lot of self-love, a lot of confidence. You got to be able to put your food down. Hotties are supposed to turn other people into Hotties too; if you see someone that’s not quite confident, you gotta be the hottie to gas your friend up!”

Elizabeth Taylor

Why Chosen: Most people probably just know her for her looks or her personal life (which was highly publicized), but she was a big LGBTQ+ ally and super instrumental in AIDS activism during a time when it was highly controversial. Starting in the early 1980s and up until her death in 2011, she was a huge advocate for bringing awareness to the disease and supporting treatment and prevention efforts as a founding partner for The American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) and The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF). All she cared about was that this was a disease affecting not only those in her life but millions around the globe and she had to do something to help no matter what, being a voice when others didn’t want to speak about it!

Fave Quote: “You just do it. You force yourself to get up. You force yourself to put one foot before the other, and God damn it, you refuse to let it get to you. You fight. You cry. You curse. Then you go about the business of living. That’s how I’ve done it. There’s no other way.”

Lynn Gunn

Why Chosen: She is such a powerful and expressive vocalist and artist that has paved her and her band’s (PVRIS) way from the rock world to pop seemingly entirely on her own terms and while sticking to her vision. Especially in a genre like rock that is still relatively male-dominated, she is a trailblazer. Her lyrics cut to the roots, empower, and also she can shred so awesomely on guitar.

Fave Quote: “It’s my house, I think it’s time to get out. It’s my soul, it isn’t yours anymore.”

Rosa Parks

Why Chosen: This may be cliché, but I’ll forever rock with Rosa Parks! She deserved to sit in her seat and she knew it! That racist man was simply hoping to feed his ego by requesting she move to the back of the bus. It was an incredibly risky decision, but there was so much power in saying “no” that day. I believe there is a lesson to be learned here and it’s that you must stand for something so confidently that you’re not afraid of the consequences because you know it is the right thing to do!

Fave Quote: “You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right.”

Rosa Parks in June 1999, when she was presented with a Congressional Gold Medal.

Mariah Carey

Why Chosen: My favorite artist of all time! Obviously an amazing voice and an insanely talented songwriter, but how she’s persevered through all the abuse, discrimination, and trauma in earlier years and always bounced back when people counted her out in her career is super inspiring. There’s always a song of hers I can recall that represents and was there for me during the good, bad, sad, or happy times in my own life!

Quote: “You really have to look inside yourself and find your inner strength and say I’m proud of what I am, and who I am and I’m just going to be myself.”

Mel Robbins

Why Chosen: Mel Robbins is a motivational speaker, among many other titles. She has figured out how to live a happier, more confident, and fulfilling life with a few simple daily habits and she now teaches others how to do the same. Since discovering her, I’ve implemented these habits into my routine and they have been extremely helpful in boosting my confidence and overall quality of life.

Fave Quote: “All it takes is one moment of courage, one step forward, one decision, to change your life.”

Hillary Clinton

Why Chosen: Badass politician who made it in a men’s world that was constantly trying to knock her down. Even though she didn’t make it all the way to the White House, history will no doubt look back on her as one of the women who paved the way for future female politicians.

Fave Quote: “People can judge me for what I’ve done. And I think when somebody’s out in the public eye, that’s what they do. So I’m fully comfortable with who I am, what I stand for, and what I’ve always stood for.”

Tina Fey

Why Chosen: She makes people laugh and pushes through a positive / progressive message. She’s arguably one of the most intelligent comics around. More than just funny, she really makes you think.

Fave Quote: “Lead her away from Acting but not all the way to Finance. Something where she can make her own hours but still feel intellectually fulfilled and get outside sometimes. And not have to wear high heels.”

Dolly Parton

Why Chosen: There’s not enough time to talk about how amazing this woman is. Not only has she had an incredible career, she’s got to be among the most generous philanthropists in the world today. Whether it’s sending free books to children or paying for university tuition for her Dollywood staff, she does amazing work for literacy and education. And let’s also not forget about her personal donation to Covid vaccine research.

Fave Quote: “I’m not going to limit myself just because people won’t accept the fact that I can do something else.”

Issa Rae

Why Chosen: super creative and a voice of a generation, her series “insecure” made quite an impact on me. I love her energy and her humility and most of all her rapping skills. She makes the most uncomfortable topics approachable and easy to discuss. I admire this woman from the bottom of my heart.

Fave Quote: “Doubting myself is what drives me.”

Meghan Markle

Why Chosen: It’s very easy to hate her, she has it all, good looks, a great career, and a loving doting Prince for a husband. Before she was a Dutchess, she was still trying to make an impact in the world and bringing an intelligent discourse to the table, I admire that about her.

Fave Quote: “Women don’t need to find a voice, they have a voice, and they need to feel empowered to use it, and people need to be encouraged to listen.”
